Background of the study
Cultural heritage deeply influences political storytelling by infusing narratives with historical values and traditional expressions. In Hausa communities, political leaders often draw on cultural heritage—through proverbs, folktales, and historical references—to craft compelling narratives that resonate with their constituents (Bello, 2023). The Hausa language, rich in cultural idioms and expressive metaphors, serves as a vehicle for transmitting collective memory and reinforcing community identity. Political storytelling that leverages this cultural heritage can mobilize support, evoke patriotism, and forge a strong connection between past and present. However, modern political communication trends sometimes favor simplified language, risking the dilution of these cultural markers. This study examines how cultural heritage influences the use of the Hausa language in political storytelling by analyzing campaign speeches, traditional narratives, and audience responses. It seeks to determine the extent to which traditional linguistic elements are preserved or modified in contemporary political discourse (Garba, 2024).
Statement of the problem
Despite the rich cultural resources available in the Hausa language, modern political storytelling often fails to fully incorporate traditional expressions, leading to diluted narratives that lack cultural depth (Bello, 2023). This erosion of cultural heritage in political discourse may weaken community identity and reduce voter engagement.
