Background of the study
Cultural heritage deeply influences political storytelling by infusing narratives with historical values and traditional expressions. In Hausa communities, political leaders often draw on cultural heritage—through proverbs, folktales, and historical references—to craft compelling narratives that resonate with their constituents (Bello, 2023). The Hausa language, rich in cultural idioms and expressive metaphors, serves as a vehicle for transmitting collective memory and reinforcing community identity. Political storytelling that leverages this cultural heritage can mobilize support, evoke patriotism, and forge a strong connection between past and present. However, modern political communication trends sometimes favor simplified language, risking the dilution of these cultural markers. This study examines how cultural heritage influences the use of the Hausa language in political storytelling by analyzing campaign speeches, traditional narratives, and audience responses. It seeks to determine the extent to which traditional linguistic elements are preserved or modified in contemporary political discourse (Garba, 2024).

Statement of the problem
Despite the rich cultural resources available in the Hausa language, modern political storytelling often fails to fully incorporate traditional expressions, leading to diluted narratives that lack cultural depth (Bello, 2023). This erosion of cultural heritage in political discourse may weaken community identity and reduce voter engagement.

Objectives of the study:

  1. To examine the integration of cultural heritage in Hausa political storytelling.
  2. To identify factors contributing to the dilution of traditional elements.
  3. To recommend strategies to preserve cultural authenticity.

Research questions:

  1. How is cultural heritage utilized in Hausa political narratives?
  2. What factors contribute to the erosion of traditional language elements?
  3. What measures can preserve cultural authenticity?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it explores the intersection of culture and political communication, providing insights for political strategists and cultural preservationists to enhance the depth and authenticity of Hausa political storytelling (Bello, 2023; Garba, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study:
Limited to political storytelling in Hausa language; excludes other communication forms.

Definitions of terms:

  • Cultural heritage: Traditional values and historical narratives passed down through generations.
  • Political storytelling: The narrative construction used to convey political messages.
  • Hausa language: The language of the Hausa people.
